視覚表現としての芸術の根幹は光であり、自分の作品は様々な光の状態(色彩、陰影、光沢等々の現象)を編成するものだと考えている。
その編成方法の違いが制作方法の違いになり、表現となってあらわれる。
本展では、これまでの制作の持続としての様々な光を編む紙ベースの皺襞作品と、これまで表に出すに至らなかった樹脂で光を重ねる作品で構成してみたいと考えている。

1980年代初め、古川は絵画をキャンバスという枠組みにとどめず、そのあり方を問い直す当時の現代美術の動向のなかで制作を始めました。
色彩や陰影、光沢といった光の現象を、絵具で描くことに限定せず、素材や構造、制作方法の探求を通して表現へと変容させていく。
その様々な展開を、古川自身は「絵画の相転移」と表現しています。
本展は、そのたゆまぬ探求の現在を示す試みです。
紙の折り込みが生む光の表情、樹脂の層がもたらす透過と屈折。異なる素材と手法から立ち現れる、鮮やかで澄んだ光の空間をぜひご高覧ください。

Haruo Furukawa is a Japanese artist whose practice centers on light as the core of visual expression. Graduating from Tokyo University of the Arts with the prestigious Ohashi Prize, Furukawa emerged in the 1980s as a key voice exploring the "phase transition of painting"—translating painterly light and color into spatial form.

Since his first solo exhibition in 1981, Furukawa has consistently examined structural shifts in expression through physical phenomena such as color, shadow, and sheen. His work encompasses delicate pleated paper structures that "weave" subtle shadows, alongside multi-layered resin compositions that "layer" light through depth and transparency. Stripping away personal narrative in favor of pure visual inquiry, Furukawa creates clean, vibrant works that engage directly with the viewer in the light, time, and space of the moment.
