人が思う「粋」を入力した言葉をもとに、AIが盆栽のイメージを生成し、3Dプリンターがそれを出力する。そこに、作家の手仕事はありません。 それでも私たちは、出来上がった盆栽を前に、きれい、なんか変、不完全…などと語ります。 限りなく盆栽でありながら、どこか“粋になりきれない”その姿。 テクノロジーが人間に近づくほど、逆に、人の感覚や身体性の輪郭が見えてくるようです。 作品を生成しているのはAIだけではありません。作家、AI、鑑賞者、そして批評。この作品は、その関係そのものが作品を生成していく、 そんな状況を示唆しているのかもしれません。 Can AI generate “iki” — a uniquely Japanese sense of refined elegance and subtle aesthetic awareness? For this project, visitors are invited to input their own interpretation of “iki.” The AI then generates images based on those words, which are materialized as bonsai forms through a 3D printer. The artist’s hand is absent from the making itself. And yet, standing before these objects, we begin to speak: beautiful, strange, incomplete, intriguing. The resulting bonsai appear almost authentic, yet never fully become bonsai. Perhaps they never fully become “iki,” either. As technology advances ever closer to human perception, the gap between machine and human sensitivity becomes quietly visible. But perhaps AI is not the only thing generating meaning here.
